The Prison of Want by Max Lucado

Are you in prison? You are if you feel better when you have more and worse when you have less. You are- if joy is one delivery away, one transfer away; one award away, or one makeover away. If your happiness comes from something you deposit, drive, drink, or digest, then face it—you are in prison, the prison of want.

That’s the bad news. The good news is, you have a visitor. And your visitor has a message that can get you paroled. Make your way to the receiving room. Take your seat in the chair, and look across the table at the psalmist David. He motions for you to lean forward…It’s as if he is saying, “What I have in God is greater than what I don’t have in life.”

We are told that the trouble with Modern Man is that he has been trying to detach himself from nature. He sits in the topmost tiers of polymer, glass and steel dangling his pulsing legs, surveying at a distance the writhing life of the planet. In this scenario, Man comes on as a stupendous lethal force, and the earth is pictured as something delicate, like rising bubbles at the surface of a country pond, or flights of fragile birds.

But it is illusion to think that there is anything fragile about the life of the earth; surely this is the toughest membrane imaginable in the universe, opaque t probability, impermeable to death. We are the delicate part, transient and vulnerable as cilia. Nor it is new thing for man to invent an existence that he imagines to be above the rest of life; this has been his most consistent intellectual exertion down the millennia. As illusion, it has never worked out to his satisfaction in the past, any more than it does today. Man is embedded in nature.

Love Yourself…

First, if it’s a people problem, take time to talk it out. Try to put yourself in the other person’s shoes. If you’re wrong, admit it and apologize. You won’t lose face. You’ll gain respect because you have acknowledged that you’re wiser than yesterday.Second , find a pressure release. Take time for yourself, even if just a few minutes. Some quiet reading, a good walk, some relaxation, or a shift of scenery can work wonders.

Make Everyday Count

Make everyday count. Appreciate every moment and take from those moments everything that you possibly can, for you may be never be able to experience it again. Talk to other people that you have never talk to before and actually listen.

Let yourself fall in love, break free and set your sighs high. Hold your head up because you have every right to, tell yourself you are a great individual and believe in yourself although it will be hard for others to believe in you. You can make your life anything you wish.

Create your own and then go out and live it with absolutely no regrets. Most importantly, if you love someone, tell them , for you never know what tomorrow may have in store and learn a lesson in life each day and everyday.

Thoughts for a Countdown by Lewis Thomas

Sometimes, in the course of the modulation of relations between animals, there are inventions that seem to have been thought up on the spur of the moment, like propositions to be submitted for possible evolution. Some are good-humored, even witty.

Even when circumstances require that there be winners and losers, the transaction is not necessarily a combat…

The Music of This Sphere by Lewis Thomas

It is one of our problems that as we become crowded together, the sounds we make on each other, in our increasingly complex communication systems, become random sounding, accidental or incidental, and we have trouble selecting meaningful signals out of the noise.

Somewhere, underlying all the other signals, is a continual music…The sound has been described as resembling, to the human ear…

The need to make music, and to listen to it, is universally expressed by human beings. I cannot imagine, even in our most primitive times, the emergence of talented painters to make cave paintings without there having been, near at hand, equally creative people making song…

Vibes by Lewis Thomas

We leave traces of ourselves wherever we go, whatever we touch. One of the odd discoveries made by small boys is that when two pebbles are struck sharply against each other they emit, briefly, a curious smoky odor. The phenomenon fades when the stones are immaculately cleaned, vanishes when they are heated to furnace temperature, and reappears when they are simply touched by the hand again before being struck.

We are marked as self by the chemicals we leave beneath the soles of our shoes, as unmistakably and individually as by the membrane surface antigens detectable in homografts of our tissues.

You can step outside to feel life!

The social insects-move and live all their lives, in a mass; other species travel in packs or schools, and share the food, but any single one can survive solitary, detached from the rest.

It is not a simple thing to decide where we fit, for at one time or another in our lives we manage to organize in every imaginable social arrangement. We are as interdependent, especially in our cities, as bees or ants, yet we can detach if we wish and go live alone in the woods, in theory anyway.
